“There was a song about a Park and there was a girl. Only the song is left.”
The only text in this book is found on the last page. Johnstone’s love letter to the proverbial “girl that got away” is done in a scrapbook type format. The book features vintage photos of the girl showing her in various places that they travelled to. There are also photos of 45 rpm records showing different artists who covered the song MacArthur Park. Vintage postcards showing a beautiful MacArthur Park are mixed with current photographs of the Park taken by Johnstone that paint a different story. Finally a silhouette of the girl is shown numerous times throughout the book until it fades away to nothing. A beautiful book of loss, memory, and the ebb and flow of life.
